The Oslo Opera House (in Norwegian, Operahuset) is the seat of The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera theatre in Norway. The building lies in Bjørvika, in the center of Oslo, at the head of the Oslofjord. Its builder was Statsbygg, a government-run property owner. The architects were the Norwegian firm Snøhetta who were also the architects of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (the Library of Alexandria) in Egypt. The theatre designers were Theatre Projects Consultants based in London, the acoustic designers were BrekkeStrandArup, a joint venture between local consultant Brekke Strand Akustikk and international acousticians Arup Acoustics. Norwegian construction company Veidekke was awarded one of the largest building contracts of the project. The structure provides a total area of 38,500 m² and includes 1,100 rooms, one of which has 1,350 seats and another has up to 400 seats. Total expenditures for the building project were planned at 4.4 billion NOK, but finished ahead of schedule, and 300 million NOK under budget.

The Opera House was finished in 2007 with the opening event held on 12 April 2008. King Harald V of Norway opened the Opera House that evening at a gala performance attended by national leaders and royalty, including President Tarja Halonen of Finland, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. The main stage is 16 meters wide, and can be made up to 40 meters deep.

The Opera won the culture award at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in October 2008. Jury member Sir Peter Cook said of the Opera House that it “…in its scale, ambition and quality has raised the bar for Norwegian architecture.”[1]

In April 2009, the Opera House was pronunced the winner of the 2009 Mies van der Rohe award, the European Union prize for contemporary architecture.

I live in the capitol of Norway, Oslo. Some people say its butt ugly, USA Today say its the most expensive city in the world. Oslo was founded around 1048, burned down in 1624, rebuilt and got its name Oslo in 1925 (previously named “Christiania / Kristiania”).

Lots of people dislike how it look, but after living here for 15 years or so I have learned to both love it and hate it. These photos try to view Oslo from a different side as well as the postcard type-ish… Hope you like them. Or hate them.

Make sure to read the information at the end of this video but basically me and DJT decided to walk a portion of Yonge Street in Toronto Canada. We started at around 9 am at the intersection of Wellington St and Yonge St in Aurora and we walked south along Yonge until we hit the end at Lake Ontario about 14 hours later. Where we ended up in the video is actually where Yonge St begins. To make our walk even more strange and interesting, I decided to do it in stopmotion, since stopmotion is what I like to do, so basically I would walk, stop and have my picture taken by DJT, as well as take his picture, so we have 2 sides captured. This was extremely tedious as you can imagine, we had thousands of pictures each, as we walked over 42 kilometers or 26 miles in 14 hours. There were many strangers wondering what on Earth we were doing taking each others pictures, we had no time to stop and explain so we made this video, which should do a better job. The next day, was a day I would not forget, having not really trained to walk so much in one day, our feet were ready to fall off, and we spent the whole day recovering on our soft sofas. Hope you enjoy this video, as it was hard to make but fun none the less and has me thinking bigger things.

When my daughter Alison was born, in the tradition of a new parent, I began to photograph her, initially in a separate and private body of work. However, in the process of documenting Alison’s growth, I developed a passionate interest in human relationships and capturing intimate moments in the lives of family and friends.

deviantART is one of the biggest art-communities on the net today, with over 11 million members, over 100 million submissions, and receives around 100,000 submissions per day. 99% is utterly crap, but with such huuuuge numbers you will eventually find some really killer art.
