All the three sites were taken off-line in 2004 due to bandwidth issues. At one point within two days there was over 1.8 million visitors, visiting the site. This crashed the server and left a rather large bill to pay. The mass visits occurred because many links to No Flesh Guaranteed came from various blogs and web sites that showed pron. And even though it feels good to have many passing visitors to the net art work from people who would normally not see such work. The downside is that many visitors were those who wanted to just see raw acts of sexuality, rather than art. More about “No Flesh Guaranteed”.

“No Flesh Guaranteed” was made by Marc Garrett who is currently co-director and co-founder of furtherfield.org along with artist Ruth Catlow.

Rdest uses a language drawn from weather patterns; inspired by sound waves, clouds, particles and cells on a microscopic level. The point of departure for these works is growth and decay; cellular division and multiplication, weather patterns biological colonization. Rdest’s love affair with colour gives rise to these paintings which are created by richly layering veils of paint to form a deep surface.

“My creatures are called monsters by some, but I often feel that the connotations associated with ‘monster’ don’t always apply to these little guys unless one can add descriptors like ‘vulnerable’ and ‘fragile’ to the definition of monster. Maybe I have issue with the monster moniker because I see my critters as self-portraits. Nick Capasso, director of the DeCordova Museum, once referred to my work as ‘little exorcisms’ and I like that description. The idea that I expel my inner demons in the form of drawn, painted, or sculpted critters appeals to me.” – John Casey
